Julian Watt was born in Melbourne. While studying a Bachelor of Economics he realised would die an unhappy man if he continued down that path. He applied to study Photography at RMIT. Having graduated in 1987, with distinction, he began work as a freelance assistant. In 1988 he moved to Sydney and worked as a freelance assistant prior to working full time for Advertising Photographer, Derek Hughes.

In 1989 he commenced work as a full time freelance photographer, prior to establishing Globe Studio with Brad Harris in 1992. Globe was established with the aim of cultivating creative advertising photography.

Julian works in Australia and Asia for a range of clients such as Qantas, Mercedes Benz, Nike, DHL and many others. His work has been recognised in the Cannes Advertising Festival, Clios, D&AD, New York Advertising Festivals amongst others.

A foundation member of the ACMP he played an important role in the introduction of usage payments and the ensuing negotiations with the advertising industry.

Julian is a past president and chairman of the ACMP (Australian Commercial and Media Photographers).
