Description
This installation is the final progression of my group assignment to create a tangible interactive installation following both works titled, HushHush and MuM. This final installation is more of a simplified and specified version of the MuM installation titled Animatic Expressions. Similar to MuM this installation invites people to visually express their own identity and personality through dressing up using symbolic and playful props. Animatic expressions explores the notion that we are not characterized just by our cognitive thinking and achievements, but our playfulness in terms of our curiosity, our love for diversion, exploration, inventions and wonders.
For this final installation the theme we chose to go for was animals because it provided us with such unique shapes, forms and colours to choose from to really express our creativity. We also chose animals as the theme to give people the opportunity to mismatch animal forms, which is something that they arent able to do in the real physical world. With the tangible dress up objects the majority of them remain very mysterious in the sense that people arent able to figure out what to expect on the screen. This element plays with peoples sense of curiosity and it offers that factor of surprise. Refer to the website (http://www.animaticexpressions.com/ ) for more information on the art installation.
This visual provided is the tangible dress up objects, being the disc headbands, and their corresponding digital visual animal head. My main role in this project was to assist in designing both tangible and digital objects. Throughout all my design pieces there is a consistent element of mixed media including the use of textiles. So this role really did appeal to my practice of adding my own design style within this project. For me extending my design from simply being restricted to the digital form and connecting it to tangible designs allows me to achieve my love for more intricate details and therefore build a deeper connection with my designs.
