In my second year of university I participated in a group assignment based around designing a website for a project. The chosen project that my group and I chose was the concept of an Eco-Kitchen. The aim of this project, as gathered from our client, was to design a web site that provided a framework for environmentally concerned consumers to gather information regarding the purchasing of kitchen appliances and their respective energy requirements. This website was also to serve the purpose of helping the general public understand the ecological foot print of kitchen products/ kitchens.
When determining the allocation of each role for this project we took into account our array of skills and talents alongside our limitations. Personally I concentrated on the areas that required extensive planning and research and well as visual design within our project. The four areas that my skills were applied exclusively were site strategy, content strategy, content production and project management. Site strategy required me to basically define the purpose of the website and plan out a successful method to achieving this portrayal. With both content strategy and content production I worked in collaboration with a fellow group member to ensure that the content within our website is relevant, accurate and substantial for our users. In relation to project management I worked in partnership with another group member to map out the path our project took, ensuring that each aspect of the project was planned and covered extensively. This project management provided a foundation upon which the entire group executed their roles in cohesion and produced a successful website for our client. Another important role goal that I played within this project was to work in collaboration with a fellow group member on the visual design of the website, ensuring that it was visually appealing and relevant to its subject matter while adhering to the rules of navigation and usability.
